How does Thermography work?
Las Vegas Thermography uses a special ultra-sensitive, infrared camera designed for the human body. This measures the changes in your body’s internal thermal regulation that are triggered by pathology, inflammation, and aggressive early stage tumors. Your doctor is then able to use the images created in your scan as a personal pathology map to find the root of your ailment.
What does Thermography measure?
Thermography measures temperature patterns on the surface of the body that may reflect changes in circulation, inflammation, and nervous system activity. It provides early detection of pathology.
How accurate is Thermography?
Studies have shown Thermography to have an over 93% sensitivity rating in detecting early stage, aggressive tumors – especially in dense, hard to study tissues like the breast.
Does Thermography hurt?
No. Thermography is completely non-invasive. There is no contact, compression, radiation, or discomfort.
What will happen during my appointment?
First, your Certified Clinical Thermographer will review your medical history. Then you’ll partially disrobe the area to take the infrared images. The procedure usually takes less than 45 minutes, and you see your images instantly!
After reviewing the scan with your CCT, they’ll upload it to a secure server for interpretation by a doctor – and you’ll leave your appointment with peace of mind.
How long does the appointment take?
Most appointments take about 30 minutes from arrival to departure, if you complete your paperwork in advance.
Do I have to disrobe?
Yes, you will need to remove clothing from the waist up for a breast exam. For a full body scan you will remove everything except your underwear. It is important to cool yourself down for 5 minutes prior to taking the scan.
Is Breast Thermography Safe?
Breast Thermography is completely risk-free. There is no radiation exposure or anything invasive about the test. You don’t even need to completely disrobe!
How is Breast Thermography different from a Mammogram?
Both tests look for cancer, but in completely different ways. Mammograms look for changes in the tissue density of the breast, while thermography looks for temperature changes that occur as a growing cancer alters the blood supply of the breast. The medical literature views both procedures as complementary to each other.
Is Thermography covered by my insurance?
Some insurance carriers may cover thermal imaging scans, and you should check your plan coverage. However, even for uninsured patients, thermal imaging is comfortably affordable.
Is Thermography only for women?
Absolutely not! Thermography detects abnormalities such as carotid arteries, immune function, thyroid issues; it can be used on anyone!
Is there any preparation for the scan?
Avoid using deodorant on the day of the scan. To avoid skin abrasions, do not shave on the day of the exam. Do not use body lotions or bath powders on your breasts on the day of the exam. Avoid hot showers, excessive caffeine, heavy exercise, spicy foods, and gum chewing the day of the exam. Follow our appointment prep checklist.
How often do I need Thermography?
Your first scan is your baseline scan, and you will have a follow-up scan in 3 months. This is very important as it is used as a comparison to your baseline to detect any physiological changes. Active cancers double in size and heat in approximately 100 days. If there are increased heat patterns and/or vascular changes from your baseline to the second scan additional modalities will be requested from the interpreting MD. If all is stable, yearly follow-up scans are advised.
Is Thermography used only for breast health screening?
No, thermography can be used to identify musculoskeletal injuries and pathology. It is useful as a diagnostic tool in cases of inflammation and chronic pain. Thermography can detect early signs of arthritis, TM, dental infections, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue. IBS, diverticulitis, and Crohn’s disease are often visible with thermography. Thermography screening can assess heart function and detect inflammation in the carotid arteries, which may be a precursor to stroke and blood clots.
Does insurance cover the cost?
You will be given a receipt with the ICD codes to submit to your insurance company.
When will I receive my results?
Reports are typically delivered within four to five days. You can pay a $25 rush fee to receive results overnight.
Who interprets the images?
Images are securely sent for professional interpretation by physicians trained in thermographic analysis. The images and history report are reported to EMI (Electronic Medical Interpretation). The images are read by MD’s who are certified in reading thermography.
Do I need a referral?
A referral is not required, though some clients choose to share reports with their healthcare providers.
Is Thermography a replacement for other imaging?
No. Thermography provides different information and is often used alongside other diagnostic tools and often early detection of pathology.
Important Disclaimer
Thermography does not diagnose disease or medical conditions. Reports are intended for use by trained healthcare providers as part of a broader evaluation.
